Now the transfer window is closed, INEOS and Manchester United are turning their attentions to agreeing a new contract with one of their key players, who wants a massive 18x wage increase, according to a new report.
Man Utd transfer news
The January transfer window was always going to be a difficult month for the Red Devils to conduct any transfer business, as PSR meant they had to be careful and move players on before looking to bring anyone new in.

The former Man United star might have thrived under Amorim
The departures of Antony and Marcus Rashford allowed United to enter the market and bring in Ayden Heaven from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. Both players were brought on to the Old Trafford pitch before the game against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and since then, Dorgu has sat down with the club’s media, stating it is “amazing to be part of the family”.
Dorgu told Man Utd’s media team: “It feels amazing to be part of the family. I’m very excited to get going. I have heard about the incredible support, and I’m happy to be one of the players of United now.
“It’s a huge club. It’s the biggest club in England, and I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager [Ruben Amorim], and I feel the system suits me really well. So, I’m excited to be here.”
Since Dorgu’s arrival, who will look to end the club’s misery at left-back, the Red Devils have announced that Tyrell Malacia has left the club to join Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. The 25-year-old joins initially on a loan deal until the end of the season, as Fabrizio Romano reports that there is a €10m buy option and a 30% sell-on clause inserted into the agreement.
INEOS working on a new deal for Man Utd gem
The Red Devils’ transfer business will now have to wait until the summer, and before then, according to GIVE ME SPORT, Man United are looking to agree a new contract with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
The report claims that United are going to prioritise giving Mainoo a new contract at Old Trafford, following the closure of the transfer window, where at one point Chelsea were linked with a move for him. Amorim is pushing the club’s hierarchy to find an agreement, as he sees the midfielder as a key part of his plans going forward.
Mainoo currently earns just £20,000 a week at United, and the Premier League side are aware he needs to be rewarded, given his rise in the first team and for England. Giving Mainoo a new contract is at the top of United’s agenda, and the player himself is keen to get a pay rise to £200,000 a week if he is to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
United consider it unthinkable to sell Mainoo in the summer and, given how important he’s become to Amorim in recent weeks, a significant pay increase may need to happen if United want to retain him. The 19-year-old has been a regular starter for United this season when fit and available, and in the last few games, Amorim has decided to play him in a more advanced role, which has looked to suit his game despite the side’s poor form.
Amorim may still have the idea of Mainoo being in the central midfield down the line, but either way, he is keen to keep hold of the Englishman for the long term.
