Manchester United are among the frontrunners to sign a £50 million “super talent” who could be seen as a replacement for Rasmus Hojlund, according to a recent report.
Hojlund’s run of games without a goal continues
The Red Devils brought in the Denmark international in August 2023, knowing that he is still very young and raw and, therefore, is not the finished article. However, there would have been the hope and expectation that his game would have improved come his second season in England, but his struggles in front of goal are continuing even under Ruben Amorim.

It would be a massive statement of intent for Ruben Amorim’s regime.
It is just seven goals in 31 games across all competitions this season, while five have come in the Europa League and only two have come in the Premier League, despite being a regular starter. His last goal came in the win over Viktoria Plzen in December, a game in which he bagged two, and since then he has gone 14 games without a goal.
The 22-year-old is averaging just 0.7 shots per game, 0.3 of which are on target, and this probably sums up the attacking problem at United, as Hojlund isn’t doing enough in front of goal, but he is also not being given the opportunities by his teammates to be a threat.
Hojlund has just 12 goals to his name in 49 total Premier League appearances and, given United are linked with players such as Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, his form in front of goal is clearly a concern for Amorim and his position in the team could be in real danger.
Man Utd are frontrunners to sign £50m star
But it is not just Gyokeres or Osimhen who could replace Hojlund, as according to Football Insider, Man United are also in the race to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.
The 22-year-old has really impressed in the Premier League since joining Ipswich, and now both United and Chelsea are interested in signing him when the summer transfer window opens. The Tractor Boys are in a relegation battle, and they could find it hard to keep hold of the striker should they drop back into the second tier.
United and Chelsea are considered the frontrunners to sign the forward who has scored nine goals in 23 league games, but it could be a costly purchase, as Ipswich are said to value Delap at £50 million. The young striker has been so impressive this season and has been the subject of much praise from pundits, with Danny Murphy labelling the striker a “super talent”.
Delap is already familiar with the area of Manchester, as he came through the academy at United’s arch-rivals, Manchester City. However, that isn’t putting United off, as they have obviously been left impressed by his performances in a struggling team, and he could be seen as an upgrade on Hojlund, who Delap has nearly outscored in the Premier League in just half a season.
