There’s no denying that injuries have decimated Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur squad throughout 2024/25, massively halting his progress in the role.
Spurs sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table, way behind the expectations set by many at the start of the season after the funds spent by Daniel Levy.
However, the injuries have demonstrated the added need for new signings in the not-too-distant future, to prevent such a situation from rearing its head once again.
The centre-back department has taken the biggest beating, with various players having to operate out of position to fill the void left by the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Archie Gray only joined in the summer, but has rarely operated in his natural central midfield role, often having to feature at the heart of the defence – but doing so excellently given his teenage years.
Spurs’ injury crisis in 2024/25
Whilst some players are starting to return to first-team training after their respective lay-offs, the injuries have been that bad, 11 first-team members were missing at one stage, highlighting the issues Ange has been faced with.
The Aussie has been extremely vocal about his frustration amid the crisis, stating how difficult his task has been over the last couple of months.
Despite the issues he’s been faced with, the Lilywhites still have a chance to end their drought without a trophy, reaching the next stage of the Europa League – entering the knockout phase as a result.
However, regardless of whether or not they are to claim the European title, Levy needs to get his chequebook out over the summer to hand Postecoglou the chance to showcase what he’s capable of with the strength in depth he needs.
Despite the need for additions, some deadwood desperately needs to be cleared out of the first-team squad over the next couple of months, with some players failing to take advantage of the opportunities handed their way.
The player who Levy needs to sell in the summer
Over the last couple of months, left-back Sergio Reguilon has been handed an opportunity to feature after previously being left out in the cold in recent seasons.
The Spaniard cost the club £32m back in the summer of 2020, but rapidly fell down the order in recent years – leaving to join Manchester United and Brentford on loan last season.
However, amid the recent injury issues at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 28-year-old was handed an opportunity to add to his tally of 67 appearances for the Lilywhites before his loan spells – being brought back into the first-team picture by Postecoglou.
He’s since made five appearances in 2024/25, with four of them coming off the bench, leaving his only start coming against non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup.
He’s shown in his displays to date that he’s simply not the player they forked out such a hefty fee for, desperately needing to cut their losses on him in the next transfer window.

Reguilon, who’s previously been dubbed “shocking” by journalist Daniel Lucker, also earns £53k-per-week in North London, totalling £2.8m a season – taking his total earnings at the club to £8.5m – a truly staggering figure.
When combining such a fee with his transfer fee, he’s set the club back £40.5m, a huge amount of money for a player who hasn’t met the expectations he arrived at the club with.
If the club are to get themselves out of their current predicament, it’s vital that the club make the right signings in the summer to allow Ange to turn around the recent slump in form.
However, it’s just as important that the deadwood is shifted out of the door to raise funds for any new additions, with Reguilon needing to be the first player sacrificed in the Spurs revolution.
