In a deal that could see them replace Miguel Almiron and complete their frontline, Newcastle United are reportedly battling to sign a Ligue 1 winger who’s enjoying an excellent campaign.
Newcastle transfer news
The Magpies could finally be in for a busy summer when the transfer window arrives. Having endured a quiet year on the incomings front, those at St James’ Park are set to be in their best position to spend since the early days of PIF’s takeover meaning they could finally turn towards the market to flaunt their riches and hand Eddie Howe some much-needed reinforcements.
With Alexander Isak also attracting plenty of interest, the Magpies could even have the task of replacing their star striker if they decide to cash in when the window arrives alongside potential big-money offers. Recent form certainly suggests that Newcastle will be in a position to demand a hefty fee this summer.
By keeping hold of their striker, however, the Tyneside club could get the chance to form a deadly front three. According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, Newcastle are now battling to sign Luis Henrique from Marseille this summer, but face competition from Nottingham Forest and Everton.
The Ligue 1 winger has enjoyed an excellent campaign under Roberto De Zerbi and has matched Anthony Gordon’s numbers all the way, with nine goals and six assists in all competitions.

The prospect of a front three between the Brazilian, Isak and Gordon is certainly enough to excite those at St James’ Park. Whether Newcastle push on and secure a deal remains to be seen, however.
“Fantastic” Henrique would complete Newcastle’s attack
If Newcastle are looking to add that final piece of firepower alongside Gordon and Isak, Henrique could be an interesting option. And that’s not to discredit the work of Jacob Murphy in the current campaign either, but it remains to be seen whether he’s enjoying a standout campaign or beginning to fulfil his full potential at St James’ Park.

A creator versus a goalscoring winger, Newcastle could even have the luxury of having two contrasting wingers to turn to if they welcome Henrique this summer.
A player who’s been at the centre of praise this season, Marseille boss De Zerbi told reporters when asked about the Brazilian: “He is having a fantastic season. He shows us that he is a complete player, with or without the ball.
“In terms of finishing, he scores goals. He is young and has to be determined to keep improving. He is one of the most important players for OM.”
