A foreign club are reportedly eyeing the signing of a “flamboyant” Sunderland attacking player in the next two weeks, according to a new transfer claim.
Latest Sunderland news
The Black Cats may have dipped a little after a magnificent start to the season, but it has still undoubtedly been a positive campaign to date, with Regis Le Bris‘ side sitting fourth in the Championship table.
While automatic promotion is looking increasingly unlikely, due to the consistent nature of Leeds United, Burnley and Sheffield United, a place in the playoffs looks almost guaranteed at this point, barring a dreadful run of form to end the season.
Whatever happens in the coming months, Sunderland will need to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window, ensuring freshness is added for Le Bris. Ahmet Gürleyen has been linked with a switch to the Stadium of Light, with the Hansa Rostock centre-back considered a strong option to bring in.
On the injury front, the Black Cats are still without the likes of Enzo Le Fee and Dan Ballard, among others, and perhaps most disappointing is the fact that loan signing Jayden Danns may not feature at all for the remainder of the campaign, having returned to Liverpool for treatment on a back issue.
Club keen on signing “flamboyant” Sunderland ace
According to TaToTake [via Sport Witness], FC LNZ Cherkasy are keen on signing Sunderland attacker Jewison Bennette, showing “substantial interest” in him. They have two weeks to get a deal over the line until the Ukrainian transfer window closes on March 11th, so the Black Cats must decide if they are willing to part ways so soon, either on loan or permanently.
Bennette has been a non-existent figure for Sunderland this season, only making one appearance in all competitions – a nine-minute cameo in the 2-0 defeat away to Preston North End in the EFL Cup back in August.
For that reason, the Black Cats may think that selling the 20-year-old in the next few weeks makes the most sense, even though he has been described as “flamboyant” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
Bennette has only registered two goals and assists apiece in 21 appearances for Sunderland overall, which is a fairly disappointing return for an attacking player, and most importantly, Le Bris doesn’t appear to see him as an important part of his plans.
The young Costa Rican is out of contract at the Stadium of Light in 2026, which also highlights the importance of moving him on this year, in order to still receive a decent fee for him.

The Black Cats could make their move…
If Sunderland allow the clock to tick down until the end of next season, they could end up losing Bennette on a free transfer, which would be negligent when they have the chance to sell him now.
