Whilst they swept past Aston Villa in dominant fashion to win 4-1, it wasn’t all good news for Crystal Palace on Tuesday night with one of Oliver Glasner‘s most important players picking up an ill-timed injury.
Crystal Palace injury news
If it wasn’t clear that the Eagles were back to their best before last night, then their 4-1 victory should have sent impressive praise in the direction of Glasner and those at Selhurst Park. Any early season failure has been put to rest. Instead, just as he did when he first arrived this time last year, Glasner has Palace firing on all cylinders and gunning for a top-half finish.
It’s no surprise that Jean-Philippe Mateta was once again on the scoresheet to make it four goals in his last five Premier League games and continue an excellent run of form. However, with every goal the concerns will only continue to grow over his potential departure, with his current contract set to expire in just over a year.
Meanwhile, as the Frenchman wheeled away in celebration once again, the Eagles were dealt a blow elsewhere. As confirmed by Glasner, Crystal Palace are now facing a nervous wait over an injury to Marc Guehi. The central defender finished the full 90, but felt some pain following the final whistle.

The Eagles are already planning ahead…
Glasner told reporters: “He felt a little bit of pain and fingers crossed it’s nothing serious, he felt pain in his knee. He can rest now for two days.”
The hope will be that any pain in his knee does not evolve into an ill-timed blow just when Palace are at their best. With the chance to progress into the final eight of the FA Cup up for grabs against rivals Millwall this weekend, Guehi should be desperate to rest and recover in time to start a crucial game.
“Great” Guehi better than ever at Crystal Palace
As reported interest from Chelsea continues to arrive, Guehi continues to become more and more important at Crystal Palace. The England international is arguably better than ever at Selhurst Park and made sure to let Three Lions teammate Ollie Watkins know exactly the level he is performing at last time out, pocketing the Aston Villa star.
Limiting Wakins to just one shot, zero successful dribbles and zero touches inside the Crystal Palace area, Guehi helped to nullify one of the Premier League’s best in what was an impressive display.
Of course, those in the England camp were well aware of the defender’s talent at Euro 2024 last summer, with John Stones telling reporters: “So good, so good.
“For him to come in, not having felt the feelings around tournament football before or these kind of games, all kinds of different emotions that come with it that you’ve never experienced before. He’s handled [it] so well, his performances have been great.”
Now, almost a year on, the Palace star has only taken his level to an even greater height, leaving plenty of questions to be answered when the summer transfer window arrives.
